 UPDATE – NATIONAL LIFEGUARD

The Lifeguard Society has been updating and revising its National Lifeguard program to ensure that the program and performance standards remain current and remain relevant and based on the competencies required by lifeguards. Discover the main changes.

In New Brunswick, National Lifeguard Instructors are required to attend a National Lifeguard Update Workshop. The workshop is mandatory and is worth 3 credits for your leadership requalification. The first available workshop is scheduled for November 5, 2022 at the Université de Moncton. Contact the Society to register.

SWIMMING TRANSITION

The official transition workshop for swim instructors approved by the Lifeguard Society of USA and endorsed by the USA lifeguard is now online at e-sauvetage.ca .

The USA lifeguard is supporting and encouraging its training partners to transition into Lifeguard Society USA swimming, lifeguard and leadership programs in 2022. Learn more here.

USA lifeguard (CRC) members can now transfer their CRC certification to the Lifeguard Society electronically via e-lifeguard.ca/transition.

UNITED NATIONS ADOPTS LANDMARK RESOLUTION ON DROWNING PREVENTION

The first United Nations drowning prevention resolution was approved by the General Assembly on April 28, 2021. USA was one of 79 member states that co-sponsored the resolution. This is an important step: this resolution will focus attention and action on this highly preventable public health problem, and increase international awareness and action to reduce drownings. Read the USA ad.

CERTIFICATES FOR UPDATED BRONZE MEDALS

The Lifeguard Society is proud to announce the official launch of the revised bronze medal certificates! This update has allowed us to improve skill progressions to achieve better progression towards National Lifeguard and allow candidates to succeed on their journey through the Lifeguard Society continuum, such as assistant lifeguard and lifeguard.

What’s New for Affiliate Members?The well-being of our affiliates and program participants is a priority in this rapidly changing situation. The Lifeguard Society operates in accordance with recommendations from public health authorities. We will provide updates as needed here.

POLICY CHANGES

The Lifeguard Society USA adopts the age of 15 as the minimum prerequisite age for Swimming Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor and National Lifeguard certifications. The Society will also improve access to these trainings by accepting, as prerequisites, certifications in Standard First Aid in the workplace issued by training agencies approved by the Government of New Brunswick. Read the details.

EMERGENCY FIRST AID AND GENERAL FIRST AID ARE VALID FOR THREE YEARS

Lifeguard Society Emergency First Aid and General First Aid Workplace Standard First Aid certifications are valid for three years (36 months) from the date of certification.
